The butting operation removes knots and other imperfections to obtain pieces of wood with no defect, of equal length and width, that we will finger joint together down the line. The rejected pieces will be used for wood by-products.

Wood faults are removed with high-tech machinery that uses computer vision. There are two identical lines, each made up of:

1. a scanner equipped with cameras on all four surfaces of the board
2. two automatic saws that execute the cutting plans generated by the scanner
3. sorting lines that grade blocks according to quality
